Today, as a thriving third-generation family business, it continues to inspire curiosity and wonder through both its retail and holistic crystal experiences.
1989
Rockshop founded by geologist Clinton Burhouse, specialising in crystals, gemstones, and fossils.
Early 1990s
Direct sourcing of natural crystals and fossils from Brazil, Morocco and Madagascar for UK museums and attractions.
1991
Jonathan Burhouse joins Rockshop.
1993
First retail crystal shop opens at the Heights of Abraham, Matlock Bath.
1995
Cash & Carry showroom established.
Standalone crystal and fossil shop opens in Ambleside, Lake District.
1998
Jonathan Burhouse becomes Manager, leading international growth.
2000s - Present
Rockshop becomes a global crystal and fossil supplier, serving trade customers in over 140 countries, including world-renowned museums.
March 2025
Launch of the Crystal Apothecary, Holmfirth – combining creative, educational and holistic crystal experiences.
2026
Rockshop becomes a third-generation family business, with Jonathan’s two sons joining the company, alongside the launch of Rockshop’s online crystal shop delivering worldwide.
