Our Family-Run Business
Rockshop is a UK-based crystal and fossil specialist, founded in 1989 by Huddersfield geologist Clinton Burhouse. From the beginning, Rockshop has focused on making natural crystals, gemstones, and fossils exciting, affordable and educational for enthusiasts of all ages.
By sourcing ethically sourced crystals and fossils from countries such as Brazil, Morocco and Madagascar, Rockshop became a trusted supplier to museums, retailers and visitor attractions throughout the UK and worldwide.
In 1991 Jonathan Burhouse joined the business. A regular visitor to the Lake District and a father of three boys, Jonathan went on to create hands-on educational crystal experiences in Rockshop’s retail stores. For over 13 years, attractions such as the Gem Pit, Bead Bar and Dino Den have entertained and educated families, helping establish Rockshop as a leading family-friendly crystal destination.
Today, Rockshop supplies trade customers in over 140 countries, while its retail crystal shops in Ambleside and Matlock Bath welcome thousands of visitors each year. In March 2025, Rockshop launched the Crystal Apothecary in Holmfirth, exploring creative and holistic crystal experiences.
Now a third-generation family business, with Jonathan’s two sons joining the expanding company, Rockshop continues to evolve. In 2026, Rockshop expands online with its first crystal e-commerce store, bringing thousands of natural crystal and fossil products to enthusiasts worldwide.
